Arthritis Pain Management Tips

Arthritis is one of the most common cases frequently brought to Dr. Jaymes Granata in Las Vegas. People of all ages suffer from arthritis, but it mostly affects the older generations as it is a condition that gets worse with age.

The pain felt when you suffer from arthritis can feel unbearable at times. The good news is that there is much you can do to relieve the pain on your own which includes the following:

Shed the Pounds

Extra weight has an adverse effect on your joints and increases the amount of pain you feel from arthritis. Reducing your weight is a surefire way to reduce the amount of pain you feel from your arthritis.

You can take certain approaches to reducing weight such as adopting a healthier diet, reducing portion sizes, and getting active. Whatever approach you choose, your bones will certainly thank you.

Get Active

Being more active through exercise or just simply moving more each day will also help with your arthritis. Exercise not only helps you lose weight, but it also helps with joint mobility.

The more mobile you are, the less pain you will feel in your joints resulting from strenuous activities. However, if you have arthritis, you may want to avoid high impact exercises such as jumping and running at first. You should try low impact exercise like swimming and yoga before moving on to high impact movements.

Heat and Cool Your Joints

Your joints could benefit tremendously from cold and hot treatments. For heating your joints, you should try long hot baths or showers, particularly in the morning to help reduce the amount of stiffness in your joints. A heating pad at night when sleeping is also a good idea.

For cold treatment, an ice pack or any frozen item wrapped in cloth should do. If you can take an ice bath, you should definitely try it. Cold treatment helps in relieving joint pain, inflammation, and swelling.

Eat More Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are crucial for optimum health in everyone. As it happens, these fatty acids have been shown to reduce stiffness and pain in the joints of arthritic patients.

Therefore, you should try consuming more fish. If you’re unable to, try taking fish oil supplements instead. You can also try the oil from seeds like hemp oil, as they will also help relieve pain in your joints.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

When it comes to human health, a good night’s sleep is just as important as diet and exercise; maybe even more important. Therefore, if you want to be able to better manage your arthritis, you should ensure that you get at least 8 hours of quality sleep every night.

Your sleeping habits are the biggest contributor to whether you’re obtaining adequate, quality sleep or not. Having a great bedtime routine is the key in this regard.

Get a Massage Regularly

A massage is not only great for relaxation but it is also great for the joints. If you have arthritis, you should specifically get your joints massaged. A massage will reduce pain, decrease stiffness, and increase mobility in your joints. You can either get a massage from someone else or learn how to do it yourself.
