Imagine a world without Nature . Without trees. Clouds . Season . Snow . Green grass . Beautiful flowers and everything that has nature be . What would the meaning of life be ? Nature is very important as humans have needed to survive and thrive, as provided by the natural world around us : food, water, medicine, materials, for shelter, and even natural cycles such as climate and nutrients.
Our body is a gift of our nature, our body and nature and this universe have a close relation, our ancestors know this tie bond with our body and the whole world. Herbs have been used since the early days of humankind and are still used throughout the world for health promotion and treatment of disease.
यावतः ह लोके भाववशषे ाः तावतः पुष।े
यावतः पुषेतावतः लोके। (च० शा० – 5/3)
i.e. Human body is equal to the universe, whatever formed entities are in the universe, the same are in the human body, the same are in human beings and whatsoever entities are in human beings, those are in the universe. – Reference – Ayurvedic classical book named Charak samhita , by Acharya Charak Makarshi.
The plants /herbs have played a major part in pharmacotherapy during the vedic period in india. Any changes occuring in the universe causes structural and functional changes in the body. Hence, changes in normal structure and function of the universe play an important role in the cause and development of disease or abnormal condition (etiopathogenesis).
The use of plants for healing purposes predates recorded history and forms the origin of much of modern medicine. Plants and natural sources form the basis of today’s modern medicine and contribute largely to the commercial drug preparations manufactured today. About 25% of drugs prescribed worldwide are derived from plants. Many conventional drugs originate from plant sources: a century ago, most of the few effective drugs were plant-based. Examples include aspirin (from willow bark), digoxin (from foxglove), quinine (from cinchona bark), and morphine (from the opium poppy). The development of drugs from plants continues, with drug companies engaged in large-scale pharmacological screening of herbs.
Ayurveda, a natural system of medicine, originated in India more than 5,000 years ago that involves the use of medicinal plant extracts along with metal extractions, massages, etc. ( Plants or herbs are used in ayurvedic treatment based on some principles. ) The term Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge). Thus, Ayurveda translates to knowledge of life. Based on the idea that disease is due to an imbalance or stress in a person’s consciousness, Ayurveda encourages certain lifestyle interventions and natural therapies to regain a balance between the body, mind, spirit, and the environment. Ayurveda, being the science of life, propagates the gifts of nature in maintaining healthy and happy living. Ayurveda’s extensive knowledge base on preventive care, derives from the concepts of “Dinacharya ” – daily regimes and “Ritucharya ” – seasonal regimes to maintain healthy life. The simplicity of awareness about oneself and the harmony each individual can achieve by uplifting and maintaining his or her immunity is emphasized across Ayurveda’s classical scriptures.
In many developing societies, traditional medicine of which herbal medicine is a core part is the only system of health care available or affordable. These plants are bestowed with functional ingredients that may provide protection against various menaces. Modes of their actions include boosting and functioning of the immune system, activation and suppression of immune specialized cells, interfering in several pathways that eventually led to improvement in immune responses and defense systems. In addition, some of these plants carry free radical scavenging and anti-inflammatory activities that are helpful against cancer insurgence.
Our nature has a solution for all our natural alignment. Nature helps in Enhancing the body’s natural defence system (immunity) for maintaining optimum health. Immunity is the resistance of the body against the infections and toxins that intrudes into our body.
